The Learn to Skate USA program was created by the U.S. Figure Skating association to be the best beginning ice-skating program and is designed to serve the needs of both recreational and competitive skaters. The curriculum keeps skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals. Whether they want Olympic fame or to simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Learn to Skate USA program is the place to start!  The Brattleboro Figure Skating Club uses this comprehensive development program to help skaters develop good ice skills.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Learn to Skate USA Program is to provide a goal-oriented program that encourages ice skating at all levels and to enhance the quality of skating skills at these levels. The objectives of the program are:
  • To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater
  • To teach correct technique of the simple basic elements
  • To promote health and physical fitness
  • To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advanced test and/or competitive structure
Following these steps will help you get the most pleasure from your skating lessons:

1. Listen attentively to the coach and pay close attention to the demonstration.  Then try the skill at least a couple of times. Ask your coach any questions if you don't understand and give it another try. Your coach will demonstrate the skill, break it down into easy steps, and offer a few suggestions for quick mastery.
2. Be courteous! Be aware of your surroundings and your fellow skaters by watching where you are going. Most importantly, always skate in control.
3. Please be prepared with the correct, comfortable fitting skates, warm attire and gloves or mittens.
4. Please be on time and arrive at least 15 minutes before class time!
5. Relax, smile, and have fun!

Club Parents The most important thing you can do as the parent of a figure skater is educate yourself and support your child both on and off the ice.  More information is available on the USFSA website.
